Tumbling halftime show in 1980
TUMBLING
best act: 1961, 1990, 1998
Tumbling was the single act performed during Gymkana’s first ever show on January 10th, 1947, a halftime show for a Maryland vs GW basketball game in Richie Colosseum. Tumbling was performed on single mats, often referred to as “dead mats,” or even just hardwood floors before getting upgraded to panel mats, a spring floor, an air track, or tumble strips. Having remained a popular exhibitional act, tumbling is often performed as the second-to-last act of Home Show, only before pyramids. The act mixes traditional tumbling passes with novelty, synchronous, and back-and-forth elements, and troupers flip over, under, and around each other. Tumbling constantly challenges troupers to develop new skills and passes, and is sure to entertain audiences of all ages.
