Balancing is one of Gymkana’s original acts, and it was performed at shows in the troupe’s first year of existence, including basketball halftime shows, road shows, and the 1947 Home Show. This act has won the Dr. Joseph F. Murray Best Act Award more than any other act (38 times to be exact!). Typically the only act performed more than once during a show, partner balancing requires each crew to develop its own signature style. Each balancing act is unique, entertaining and astonishing audiences throughout the years. There are many different combinations of balancing acts, keeping this small group act fresh and different: doubles, triples, quads, and quints, each with the option of separating or combining genders into women’s, men’s, or mixed. Gymkana has even had multiple groups of triples performing at the same time. By adding novelty themes, comedy, platforms, and individual costumes, Gymkana troupers have made partner balancing into something truly unique.

Balancing has always been one of Gymkana's universally recognized acts, showcased in campus exhibitions, sports halftimes, formal celebrations, road shows, and more. Perhaps balancing’s popularity with troupers from 1947 to today is because the act solely involves the most versatile piece of equipment of all, the human body. Since no gymnastics equipment is used, balancing groups rely on strength, balance, and most of all trust to put on these amazing showcases.
