Home Show in March

True to its old moniker of Ambassadors of Good Will, this year’s Troupe made an extraordinary effort to engage in service to others. In addition to their usual kind of performances, troupers participated in service projects and performances to support various community groups and causes. These included events to support youth mentorship, sports equipment for underprivileged children, a food drive, a children’s hospital network, mentally and physically disabled children, youth literacy, and cystic fibrosis.

Despite keeping busy, the road show season felt shorter than normal. Due to scheduling conflicts at the Xfinity Center, this season’s Home Show had to be scheduled in March. This was the first March performance of Home Show since 2001 and the earliest date for the Home Show since 1985. This presented a challenge since every week makes a difference in the Troupe’s development and preparation. What made this schedule even more challenging was that Home Show week immediately followed the university’s spring break. This called into question whether the Troupe would be ready to go if the students were away the week before setup and rehearsal. Will staging be completed? Will act choreography be finalized? Will the troupers have enough practice of their skills and routines? Will the troupers quickly recover their physical conditioning?

The answer to all of these questions was yes. The Gymkana Troupe thrilled their audience with a near flawless two nights of Home Show!
