2005-2006

Gymkana’s 60th anniversary show season began with a new show for the troupe. Flip-a-thon, now a staple of every Gymkana season, was conceptualized and enacted by the officer body in 2005-2006. The troupe was under a tight budget, and in the past, troupers had done many mini fundraising activities throughout the season, such as working concessions and cleaning up trash after basketball games. The officer body wanted a performance-based fundraiser that spread Gymkana’s message. Inspired by school programs such as Jump for Heart, they came up with Flip-a-thon. Viewers pledged money for every flip— even just a penny or a few— and then the team had a friendly competition in which two teams competed over a ten-minute period to see who could do the most flips on the double mini trampoline. That first year, a couple thousands dollars were raised. Since then, Flip-a-thon has become a yearly Gymkana tradition and a vital part of its fundraising, bringing in over $30,000 in 2025 alone.

At Home Show, some unique acts included a short rhythmic comedy skit, a large group dance, a picnic-themed juggling act, and a comedy p-bars routine performed by coaches Scott Welsh and Josh Montfort.
